When to Sow Orange Spider Plant Seeds

  • Sow indoors all year round! The Orange Spider Plant should be in a warm location to germinate.
  • Germination is fast, usually within 2-6 weeks!

How to Grow an Orange Spider Plant

  1. Fill your seed tray or pots with a mix of compost and vermiculite or horticultural sand, 50/50 is best. Moisten the soil but don’t soak it.
  2. Plant your spider plant seeds roughly ½ inch deep and cover them with soil.
  3. Cover the tray or pots with a clear plastic zip-lock bag or anything that still lets light in and creates a greenhouse-like atmosphere.
  4. Place your container somewhere warm but not in direct sunlight. Spider plants need warmth to germinate so find a warm spot in your house. The covering will also help to keep some warmth in.
  5. Keep the soil continuously moist but not soaked during the germination period.
  6. Germination usually starts within a couple of weeks but can be up to a month or so. Remove the plastic cover 7 days after your seedlings appear.
  7. Allow your seedlings to grow many true leaves before transplanting them, Spider plants are delicate seedlings that don’t like to be moved too soon.
  8. When they are ready to be transplanted, plant them into individual 8cm pots. Whilst still continuing to keep the soil moist but not soaked and place in non-direct sunlight.

Top tip: Orange Spider plants are great because they filter out airborne toxins to help clean the air in your home!
