 Description

Thai Dragon Trees, which can also be known as Dracaena Cochinchinensis or Dracaena Loureiroi are native to Southwest China, Thailand and Laos where it grows on limestone cliffs.

They are hardy, low maintenance, easy to grow house plants that make a beautiful feature in any home! They make great air purifier’s.

When to Sow Thai Dragon Tree Seeds

  • Sow indoors all year round! The Thai Dragon Tree needs to be in a very warm location to germinate.
  • Germination can take 4-6 weeks, though we have seen success in as little as two weeks!

How to Grow a Thai Dragon Tree

  1. Place your seeds into a bowl of room temperature water for 3-5 days, changing the water daily. This starts off the germination process.
  2. Fill your seed tray, or pots, with well-drained soil made up of 50/50 compost and vermiculite or horticultural sand. Moisten the compost and sprinkle two seeds into each cell, then lightly cover with compost.
  3. Cover the tray with a clear plastic zip-lock bag, or anything you can find around the house, that is clear so still lets light in, but creates a greenhouse-like atmosphere for warmth.
  4. Place the tray in the warmest spot in your house with bright, indirect light. A sunny windowsill isn’t quite right as the direct sunlight is too intense for germination.
  5. Keep the soil moist but not saturated. Watch the plastic covering doesn’t have water dripping, if this happens loosen the plastic slightly to give some ventilation as seeds can rot if conditions are too damp.
  6. The seeds should germinate in 4-6 weeks, remove the plastic covering as soon as they do.
  7. Transplant to individual pots once each seedling has two leaves.

Top tip: They thrive in humid spots, so your bathroom, conservatory or greenhouse is the ideal location for your Dracaena Cochinchinensis!
